Thanksgiving Day

After a fantastic Thanksgiving meal with family, the kitchen is cleaned up, our tummy’s are stuffed to maximum capacity, the smiles are big and all eyes are getting droopy. Holiday food is my favorite and I have a really bad habit of over-eating every year!

This year, since there are only 6 of us, we tried to keep the menu and portion sizes smaller than usual. We had an 8 pound turkey, small spiral ham, my favorite sweet potato casserole (stay tuned for the recipe coming next!) stuffing, and cranberry sauce!

One of my most favorite things to do on Thanksgiving is look back on the year and think about everything new I have to be thankful for. This year I made Chicago my home, moved to a new home, made new friends, got a job that I love, celebrated a year of marriage, celebrated a Cubs World Series and experienced so many more exciting things. I am so thankful for all my family and friends who helped make this year a great one!

It is so important to stop and think about all the things you have to be grateful for. Sometimes life hits hard and when you get so caught up in the stresses that come with it, it is extremely easy to forget that you have more things to be thankful for than not. Learning how to show gratitude in times of stress is EXTREMELY difficult. I Β catch myself complaining a lot, about small things, every day. My commute home from work for example, it’s so long and tedious and traffic is just awful, but I am thankful that I have a vehicle to get me to and from my job, I am thankful that I have a great job and I am thankful that I have a happy home to come back to.

With all the negativity in the world today, overlooking the good is almost too easy. I am so grateful that I live in a country that can practice free speech but sometimes the free speech of others can influence a sour attitude in me. I know it’s not the new year yet, but my hope for the upcoming year and many years to come is to do a better job at showing gratitude toward others and for the things I have.

What are some of your favorite things about Thanksgiving? What are you grateful for this year? I’d love to hear from you!

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope your food baby is as big as mine!
